Lake Nakuru National Park

Nakuru纳库鲁

Visit the famous flamingo lake and spot rhinos, lions, and leopards in this compact but wildlife-rich park

About Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park is a gem in Kenya's wildlife conservation system, famous for its stunning pink shoreline created by thousands of flamingos. This compact park, established in 1961, is one of Kenya's first rhino sanctuaries and offers excellent chances to spot both black and white rhinos.

Located in the Great Rift Valley, the alkaline lake and surrounding savanna and woodland make up a diverse ecosystem that supports an impressive variety of wildlife in a relatively small area of approximately 188 square kilometers.

Wildlife

While the park's flamingos have made it internationally renowned, Lake Nakuru is also home to over 450 bird species and a remarkable variety of mammals. Visitors can spot lions, leopards, rhinos, hippos, Rothschild's giraffes, zebras, buffalos, waterbucks, and other antelope species. The park's relatively small size makes wildlife viewing highly efficient with excellent sighting opportunities.

Conservation Success

The park stands as a conservation success story, particularly for its rhino protection program. It's also an important sanctuary for the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, with a healthy population thriving within its boundaries. The ecosystem management demonstrates how effective protection can help endangered species recover.
